Nickel, Paris: face treatments for men

Gentlemen, I’d really like to make you discover those serious face treatments, with great funny names! A early thirties friend’s told me about Nickel few months ago, as: “the best label. I’ve discovered it in the French magazine for men, Optimum. Efficient products for us, without too much blablabla…”. True, considering the name of products: “Bonne Gueule “ (Good Face), the moisturizer. “Moorning After Rescue Gel” (in French “Lendemain de Fête” literately means “Moorning after partying”): to have a good complexion. “Fire Insurance”: the after shave cream! And “Super Clean”: the scrubbing gel. So I ask five friends (from 20 to 37) to test those products. And the younger as the older wanted to have the same: a clean and comfortable skin and don’t look tired. Afraid to age? Cool, the stress has gained our male friends. And the winner is the “Moorning After Rescue Gel “ all of them found it great! Just one problem: the “expensive price” I quote. For us, the ladies: if those skin cares can help you gentlemen, not to take our very very expensive specific super efficient creams, so we do love Nickel too!

Don’t we say somewhere in a Disney harem: an immaculate clean man’s worth three, do we? Mmm I guess: a well-manner and nicely shod and  immaculate and clean gentleman’s worth two… No: three! You’ve been warned!

Nickel, Paris: soins visage pour hommes

Messieurs, j’ai très envie de vous faire découvrir ces soins, tant leurs noms m’amusent ! Sur les conseils avisés d’un trentenaire méticuleux quant à sa petite personne (presque deux mètres) qui m’a le premier parlé de Nickel : « la meilleure. Je l’ai découvert, dans le magazine Optimum. Des produits pour nous, efficaces sans faux discours ». Le moins qu’on puisse dire : « Bonne Gueule », c’est l’hydratant visage. « Lendemain de Fête » : l’anti mine blafarde. « Contre-Feu » : l’après-rasage, pas mal non ? « Super Clean » : l’exfoliant quotidien sans savon. Bref j‘ai fait tester la gamme de soins visage, par cinq amis de 20 à 37 ans qui ne veulent pas paraître marqués, fête ou pas. Peur de vieillir ? Chouette l’angoisse s’est propagée chez nos amis les hommes. Et le grand gagnant est « Lendemain de Fête » qui fait l’unanimité ! Seul hic, les prix, « pas donnés » je cite. Quant à nous les femmes : si ça pouvait vous empêcher de piocher dans nos formules très élaborées et très chères pour soigner nos problèmes très spécifiques à chaque partie très ciblée de notre très sublime anatomie, alors ouiiiiiiiiii nous aussi on aime !

Ne dit-on pas dans un harem disneyen qu’un homme propre et soigné en vaut trois ! Heu c’est plutôt : un homme propre, soigné, gentleman et bien chaussé, en vaut deux… Non trois ! A bon entendeur, Nickel !

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: beauty and plastic surgery

Cia-cia-ciao lovely women’s magazines and archaic diets! In Rio, the press has developed many big audience magazines about aesthetic surgery for young and “less” young men and women. At least to be more beautiful, all suffer the same way or almost. And the radiant proud Carioca stars are really good at explaining their “perfection” secrets. Claimed bistouries’ addiction with no inhibitions. Unthinkable for our French celebs, but their plastic surgeries results are less impressive and exciting. Maybe because of the light… or the culture: in Paris, we miss beautiful beaches. Subscribing to those magazines, or participating to one of their last games, you can win a fresh new tone and perfectly shaped buttock (the national emblem), a mega bright laser smile (another national institution) and  body-builder stomach and lipo sculpture… Vertigo! Some super superlative beauty package? I’m really impressed, truly. An abrasive Californian “natural” - I must confess – enjoyable to watch and for the good mood. I’ve forgotten the astounding number of private clinics in streets (like shops), even in small Nordeste towns. And the Brazilian famous Professor Ivo Pitanguy, “father of today’s plastic surgery”  whom since the seventies has developed less aggressive surgical techniques. And the Brazilian supermodel Gisele’s changed her nose, hasn’t she? Gossip…

Cia-cia-caio gentils féminins et archaïques régimes ! A Rio, l’ère est aux magazines de chirurgie esthétique tous publics : hommes, femmes, jeunes et moins jeunes à la même enseigne. Au moins tout le monde souffre à part égale ou presque. Et les stars cariocas, éminemment pédagogues, nous expliquent radieuses et fières leurs secrets de perfection. Bistouri addiction plus que décomplexée, revendiquée. Impensable  chez nos vedettes hexagonales, dont les résultats sont loin d’être aussi enthousiasmants. Question de lumière peut-être… Et de culture : la proximité d’une plage. En s’abonnant aux magazines, ou en jouant à un dernier jeu-concours, on peut gagner : de nouvelles fesses (l’emblème nationale), un sourire laser mega bright (autre véritable institution nationale), abdos de culturistes et autres lipo sculpture… Vertige ! Ou comment décliner l’offre beauté au super superlatif ! Suis humblement admirative, vraiment. Naturel abrasif californien qui - il faut bien se l’avouer - fait du bien aux yeux et moral. J’oubliai le nombre hallucinant de cliniques privées se jouxtant dans les rues, jusqu’aux bleds improbables du Nordeste. Sans omettre LE professeur brésilien Ivo Pitanguy, « père de la chirurgie plastique actuelle » qui dès les années 70, développa des techniques opératoires moins agressives. Et le super model brésilien Gisele a bien refait son nez non ? Gossip…

L’Occitane: Rose Pearlescent Cream (body moisturizer)

If you feel a bit nostalgic of beauty secrets of your great grand-mother’s times… So you will love the evocative label and the glass pot and the good smell of roses. The “total package” to sent us in a fantasized past…

Absolutely irresistible! Rose Pearlescent Cream of L’Occitane is really great: my summer darling body moisturizer! The smell is a successful combination between what we think of an ancient perfume and something more contemporary. The rose scent always brings a charming quaint note. The light texture is creamy but not sticky, generous but not greasy. You don’t need to take a lot of cream and vigorously rub it in skin. Once applied, you smell a discrete perfume drifting around you, which is really really nice. The sweet almond oil nourishes and softens the skin. But I don’t think the Rose Pearlescent Cream is enough efficient for dry skins in winter. And I use it more like a great pleasure than a specific skin treatment.
